Haunting’s as Visual Projections of the Deceased’s Subconscious at the Time of Death
There are several different types of haunting's, but there is one in particular that always caught my attention. The type of haunting where the apparition appears in the same spot, at the same time and does the same thing each time it appears. If you stand in front of it to get its attention, it just walks right through you. It does not even know you are there.
I believe that emotions can literally leave an emotional imprint on the space-time continuum. Have you ever walked into a house and just felt fear? Even though no one has lived there for years. It could be fear or sorrow or general distress. The way a room in an old house feels as opposed to a room in a brand new house. There are also imprints of joy as well, but these imprints sometimes go unnoticed because we are so fascinated by the macabre.
In our living lives when we have gone through something traumatic the post traumatic symptoms can appear in many different forms. Some of these results can be re-occurring dreams, or mild too extreme obsessive-compulsive disorder. For some reason when someone has gone through something traumatic, many feel the need to make repeating actions. Sometimes their mind repeats dreams over and over again. Like a record skipping. A part of that persons mind is just having a hard time moving on completely from that event.
I have one possible explanation for the type of apparition that seems to be nothing more than a repeating hologram. I'll use an example
Lets say it is the late 1800's and there was a woman named Mary. Every day Mary went up the stairs of her old Victorian house to get an oil lamp. This is what she would do everyday before she went to wake up her husband. Mary's husband was very abusive. Every day he would hurl insults at her and even beat her. No one knew this was happening to her and the few that may have known didn’t care. Mary felt trapped and terrified, but did not know what else to do. Living this way her whole life, with no support and no one to protect her or support her in protecting herself she felt alone and desperate. One day the pain became too much for her. She woke up one the morning and walked up the stairs. She grabbed the oil lamp, and then noticed her husband’s gun sitting on the table. She picked up the gun, noting that it was loaded. The pain and anger, grief and fear consumed her. She walked into her husband’s room and shot him. Seeing her husband dead there with the blood splattered all over the wall shocked her so and the fear of the reprocutions consumed her to the point where she put the gun to her own head and pulled the trigger.
This instance would have been so traumatic for her that the fear that she had felt literally left an imprint on space-time that we can see visually from the realm of the living. Everyday she would wake up and look at those stairs... she would see them towering above her. Mary would walk up them with dread knowing that the moment she got to the top of the stairs and picked up that lamp, she would have to go wake up her husband and another day of terror and abuse would begin all over again.
When she died in absolute confusion, guilt and fear it was like her subconscious was imprinted on the space-time in that house. In a sense her subconscious was playing out over and over again like a repeating dream, a repetitive thought in her head. The action of walking up the stairs to pick up that lamp became a dreaded sign in her head, a symbol of pain and abuse. This action represented the reason she killed her husband. The pain she felt everyday. It was the alarm clock that signaled another day of abuse. It may not seem to connect in a strangers mind as to why this would symbolize that. But this woman knew what the stairs symbolized.
This imprinted memory was left in the house via the emotional imprint, so that when someone alive in the present goes into that house. They report strange sightings of a sad woman walking up the stairs at the same time every morning. The woman could not see them and would always pass right through them. I believe this is because the image the people are seeing is nothing more than a repeating image from the woman’s subconscious whose pain has left an imprint on space-time.
This of course is just one explanation. There is the other more traditional explanation. The one where the woman killed herself but she died so suddenly and the whole thing was so traumatic for her that she had no idea she was dead. She kept on living her life as if she was alive doing the same thing day in and day out. We can see her because she is dead but she cannot see us because she has no idea she is dead. This is very similar to the movie "The Others." I would explain the movie but I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t seen it. It’s defiantly worth getting if you like ghost movies.
